Cancer Information Service
The National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service (CIS) provides cancer patients, their family and friends, health professionals, and the public with the latest information about cancer. The CIS coordinator for Arkansas is based at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. The CIS is the National Cancer Institute’s link to the public, providing clear and understandable information about cancer research and findings. The national network of 14 regional CIS offices serves the entire United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. To receive a personalized response to questions about cancer, the public is encouraged to call the CIS at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6231) to speak with a Cancer Information Specialist. Hearing impaired callers with TTY equipment can call 1-800-332-8615. In addition to the phone numbers, the CIS also provides an internet instant messaging service called Live Help where cancer professionals provide personalized cancer information to the public. Arkansas is served by the CIS Mid South Regional Office, located at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky.
